L2025.2.1Description
Navy, tan and natural figured doubleweave coverlet; two panels joined by a center seam. Floral borders on all four sides with floral corner block logo. Centerfield pattern features ornate lobed flowers and rounded cross shape.
The odd mixture of colors in this coverlet likely came about by mixing bobbins of yarn dyed with indigo together with bobbins of yarn dyed with logwood. They would originally have been a uniform dark blue. The logwood has since faded to tan, while the indigo has remained colorfast, producing a coverlet with irregular warp striping. A 2-1/2 inch section of weft in one panel is also indigo blue, while the remainder of weft is tan.Collection
