Description

Cardboard coaster used in Czechoslovakian restaurants and pubs.

Use

This coaster comes from one of the oldest surviving restaurants in Czechoslovakia, u Dvou Koček -- "In Two Cats," as illustrated on the coaster holding Pilsner beers. U Dvou Koček has been a beer hall offering Pilsner beer since 1941; however, the space has been a restaurant since 1678.

Context

Leopoldo Arús Caraballo likely took this coaster from the restaurant as a gift for his father, Leopoldo Arús Gálvez, while on a trip to Czechoslovakia in the 1970s and 1980s.

Research Notes

Notes

"Prague - Pilsen restaurant U Dvou koček In this well-known Prague restaurant, we celebrated a farewell to a civilian in the autumn of 1983, before we left for Moravia in the evening to enter a two-year compulsory military service. As the name implies, Pilsen stuck there. I don't know how old this coaster is, it can be even older than from the named event. Since 2010, the company has started brewing its own beer called Kočka, namely light and dark lager, but Plzeň is tapped at the same time. And because they already have their own mini-brewery, you will find the current coaster among those from Prague breweries." From http://www.fotodoprava.com/ptacky_rest.htm
