Hoover Dam Days [1992] MS 112 Hoover Dam Days [1992] The Hoover Dam Days Festival of Pride was celebrated in 1992 as a week-long city-wide event to commemorate the construction of Hoover Dam and to honor the place in history of the men and women who came to Southern Nevada to work on the Boulder Canyon Project. Conceived by Kae and Liz Pohe, who had spear-headed Hoover Dam’s 50th anniversary Penny Power Project in 1985 [see MS 82], the event was also meant to establish annual fundraising events for the Boulder City Museum and Historical Association. Among the events scheduled for Hoover Dam Days were a carnival, a golf tournament, an antique automobile rally, the Rotary Club’s Octoberfest, and the annual Thirty-oners banquet sponsored by the Boulder City Museum and Historical Association [see MS 42]. It was at the 1992 Hoover Dam Days that the railroad handcar races, known as Rattlin’ Rails, was established as one of Boulder City’s premier events. "Hoover Dam Days" as the name of the event survived one more year, 1993, although it was no longer a city-wide celebration, but confined to the Rattlin’ Rails handcar races. Rattlin’ Rails today continues drawing participants from around the world and has itself become an important fundraising tool for the Boulder City Museum and Historical Association. MS 112 includes financial records, correspondence, schedules of events, publicity files, and committee meeting minutes and agendas for the 1992 Hoover Dam Days Festival of Pride. * * *
