Scope and Content

Black Canyon Country Club MS 20 Black Canyon Country Club Boulder City's Black Canyon Country Club was originally established in 1933 when members played on a sand course in the desert south of town, teeing off from raised platforms made of local volcanic rock arranged in a square and filled with hard-packed dirt. At one point the club took a lease from the Bureau of Reclamation for 206 acres of land south of what is now Adams Boulevard with the promise they would build a golf course. The promised course did not happen and shortly after Boulder City's incorporation the club bought the land it had leased. In a controversial deal in 1971 the Black Canyon Country Club sold its golf course land to Panda Homes for a housing development. It wasn't until 1972 that Boulder City built a municipal golf course, which was dedicated on June 9, 1973. * * *
