Boulder City Museum and Historical Association MS 43 Boulder City Museum and Historical Association While a museum was planned for Boulder City as early as 1935, efforts to establish one did not get underway until 1966 when the Boulder City Cultural Center was founded [see MS 21; also see "Boulder City Will Have Dam Museum" (Las Vegas Evening Review-Journal, April 5, 1935, 3:5); "Boulder Dam Museum Plan" (Las Vegas Evening Review-Journal, December 12, 1935, 1:3); "Museum Center Project Begins in BC" (Las Vegas Review-Journal, January 15, 1967, 22:1-4); and "Enthusiasm High for Museum Here; Individual Pledges Launch Project" (Boulder City News, January 19, 1967, p. 1)]. The Cultural Center was intended to house a Boulder City/Hoover Dam Museum, an art gallery, the Chamber of Commerce, and space for cultural events. The Cultural Center as it was envisioned never happened, and in 1980 the Boulder City Museum & Historical Association was established and began raising money for its own building. The museum first opened in a store front at 444 Hotel Plaza in 1988, and in 1998 moved into the Boulder Dam Hotel at 1305 Arizona Street. The material in this collection includes organizational and financial records, ephemera, and records dealing with the museum's various facilities and proposed facilities. Boxes 1 - 4 contain extensive and detailed records of the Association from its inception in 1980 through the end of 1999. These records were preserved by Association president [1980 - 2000] Robert Ferraro. Except for being transferred to binders, the Ferraro records have been maintained in the order in which he kept them. * * *
