Robert and Serene Ziemer Papers MS 47 Robert and Serene Ziemer Papers Born in Kingman, Arizona on March 11, 1896, R. K. Ziemer came to Las Vegas in the 1920s where he was hired in 1928 as Las Vegas's first uniformed policeman as well as its first motorcycle traffic officer. Ziemer married native southern Nevadan Serene Abbott of Bunkerville on March 15, 1930 and the two moved to Boulder City in 1931 where Robert was hired as a Bureau of Reclamation ranger. Serene Ziemer sang at the dedication of Hoover Dam on September 30, 1935 and in 1937 she and her husband left Boulder City for Pasadena, California. The two retired to Boulder City in 1978. * * *
