Boulder City Chamber of Commerce MS 49 Boulder City Chamber of Commerce The Boulder City Chamber of Commerce is one of the town's earliest organizations. Founded on April 19, 1932 as the Boulder City Businessmen's Association, it was also known as the Boulder City Merchants Association and the Boulder City Commercial Association, before being recognized as the Chamber of Commerce. For nearly 70 years the Chamber has promoted tourism and business interests in Boulder City. While the Chamber's work has generally been positive, it has sometimes become involved in controversy. During the years of Boulder City's incorporation in the 1950s the Chamber openly favored the city's freeing itself from federal control, which only fueled the rancor among local citizens. In the 1990s the Chamber publicly spoke against several popular ballot initiatives designed to restrict land sales [see MS 37]. In general, however, the Chamber's work has brought great benefit to Boulder City. A number of promotions established by the Chamber of Commerce, such as the Spring Jamboree, have evolved into very popular and lucrative events drawing people from throughout southern Nevada. MS 49 includes the Chamber's meeting minutes, financial records, institutional documents and ephemera, correspondence, and promotional material from the period between 1946 and 1997. A very large collection of Boulder City Chamber of Commerce records [1930s-60s] is part of the Elton and Madelaine Garrett Collection [MS 93-40] in the Special Collections Department of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. * * *
