Albert Fisher Papers MS 54 Albert Fisher Papers Albert J. Fisher [May 23, 1880 - May 25, 1972] had a very long and distinguished career in southern Nevada. He came to Las Vegas in the early 1920s and was involved with the Bureau of Reclamation's explorations in Boulder Canyon for a Colorado River dam site. He worked in Las Vegas as a building contractor during the 1920s, and when the Bureau of Reclamation remodeled the old Mormon Fort for use as a testing laboratory in 1930, Fisher did the construction work. He went to work as a laborer for the Bureau of Reclamation in Boulder City in February 1931, and worked with the crew that built the government homes along Denver, Colorado, and Arizona Streets. Sometime in the mid-1930s Fisher ran an unsuccessful campaign for constable of Las Vegas Township [a campaign flier exists in MS 46, item 65.b], and he retired from the Bureau of Reclamation in 1951. Thereafter, Fisher was active in the Clark County Legislative Council, the Clark County Civic Service Federation, the Nevada State Fish and Game Commission, and the Boulder City Chamber of Commerce. The few items in this collection reflect Fisher's public service work in the 1950s. The Elton and Madelaine Garrett Collection [MS 7] contains a box of material on Albert Fisher. * * *
