Scope and Content

Ervin "Tex" and Macie Felts Papers MS 102 Ervin "Tex" and Macie Felts Papers The Felts Family--Ervin "Tex," Macie, and daughter Verloree--came to southern Nevada in 1931 and settled in McKeeversville on the western outskirts of the Boulder City town site. Felts [d. 1948] was the first electrician hired by the Bureau of Reclamation on the Hoover Dam Project. Felts held a number of jobs throughout the dam construction years, including work for the Babcock and Wilcox Company and the Six Companies. Ervin and his wife, Macie [d. 1987], were original members of Grace Community Church, where Macie was active in the Ladies Aid Society. She was also a celebrated seamstress, who had done work for Mrs. J. P. Morgan and other wealthy socialites before her family moved to Boulder City. Macie eventually went to work for the Bureau of Reclamation as a receptionist and switchboard operator, retiring after 20 years. Tex and Macie’s daughter, Verloree [d. 2002], married E. Ames Bader in 1943, divorcing later. Verloree settled in Boulder City with her children, Doug and Aril, and worked for many years at Timet in Henderson, Nevada. She was also a very active member of the Boulder City Little Theatre group throughout the 1950s and ‘60s, and later of the Boulder First Nighters. The Felts collection contains personal papers and ephemera, and copies of the correspondence between Tex and his family when he was overseas during World War II. * * *
