Circle 8 Square Dance Club
Sometime between 1944 and 1946 several Boulder City couples interested in square dancing established a club which they named the Circle 8 Square Dance Club in 1947. To encourage growth in its early years, the club sponsored square dance classes. Throughout the 1950s and early 1960s the Circle 8s flourished, although between 1964 and 1973 attendance fell when the club had difficulty finding a caller. The club re-established itself in 1973 to sponsor the annual Hoover Dam Square Dance Festival, which it still sponsors today [2001]. MS 68 contains a photographed copy of a square dance call book, c. 1940s-50s. For more information on the Circle 8 Square Dance Club, see "Circle 8 Square Dance Club" [Boulder City News Damboree supplement, July 3, 1980, A22] and "Square Dance Club Dates Back to 1940s" [Boulder City News Damboree supplement, June 29, 2000, 8].
