Scope and Content

LaRae Collett Robertson Collection MS 87 LaRae Collett Robertson Collection The LaRae Collett Robertson Collection contains the personal papers of her father, Karl Collett [March 29, 1898 - December 9, 1956], and mother, Dorcas Leah McBride Collett [January 25, 1904 - May 18, 1987]. Karl Collett was the Night Shift Superintendent of Construction and general foreman on the Boulder Canyon Project for four years. When Hoover Dam was completed, the Six Companies presented 80 of its executives and upper management employees specially minted medallions to honor their service—Collett's medallion is part of this collection. [see "Medallions Are Struck to Mark Dam Completion" in the Las Vegas Evening Review-Journal, Friday, January 24, 1936, 3:7-8.] After leaving Hoover Dam, Collett and his family followed a number of other construction projects around the North American continent, including Imperial and Shasta Dams, and the Quebec North Shore and Labrador Railway. Collett, tragically, was killed on December 9, 1956 in the crash of Air Canada Flight 810. The material in this collection includes Karl Collett's record of his LDS missionary activities in England in 1921-23; journals he kept for construction projects he worked on; a bound typescript autobiography of Collett's wife, Dorcas Leah; several articles, artifacts, and clippings; as well as a photograph collection, stored separately. * * *
