Scope and Content

McNamee and McNamee Papers MS 97 McNamee and McNamee Papers The McNamee, McNamee & Rittenhouse law firm was one of the most prestigious and longest-lived in Las Vegas history. The firm, which went through four partnerships, was founded in 1913 by Leo McNamee and his father, Frank, Sr. The second partnership included Leo and his brother, Frank, Jr.--who eventually served as chief justice of the Nevada Supreme Court; the third, Leo and his son, John; and the fourth included John, his brother, Joe, and John’s wife’s brother, Pete Rittenhouse. Joe McNamee eventually retired from the firm, his brother, John, died on September 26, 1977, and when Pete Rittenhouse became the Clark County Probate Commissioner in 1978, he closed the firm. It was at that point the firm’s records were collected, sorted, and donated to the Nevada State Museum and Historical Society in Las Vegas, which, in 2001, transferred the Boulder City- and Hoover Dam-related records to the Boulder City Museum and Historical Association. The material in the McNamee and McNamee Papers includes litigation, corporate and business records, and estate papers for several of Boulder City’s most significant individuals and enterprises: 1. "Barney" [estate papers] - Delmar opened Boulder City’s first drugstore 6. MacDonald, R. G. [estate papers] - Bureau of Reclamation official 8. MacCornack, Dr. D. M. [business records] - a noted Boulder City physician 9. Meisner, Louis [litigation] - Meisner was an influential Boulder City businessman 10. Nickell, Clara Ann vs. Bryan, Oscar, et. al. - Nickell was a Boulder City business woman 11. Southern Nevada Telephone Company [business and corporate records] - these records trace the efforts of the Southern Nevada Telephone Company to secure rights to build and operate a telephone line and system in the new town of Boulder City and at the Hoover Dam site 14.
