Francis Hill came to Exeter from Castine in the fall of 1813. He started building part of this house in 1829, and finished a barn in 1834. At the time of his death , the farm consisted of 300 acres.
The farm passed to the joint ownership of the two sons, Francis W. and George. After the death of Francis W., his son, Francis W. (Will) Hill became owner. He made many more changes and additions by making the ell two stories and building a new shed and storehouse 100 feet long. The old barns were moved to make a continuous barn 180 x 45 feet and a new barn 50 x 152 feet was built. When he removed to Bangor he sold the farm to John A. Rockwell. John O. Rockwell, his son then ran the farm and made more changes and built a large potato house.
A fire destroyed all the buildings in the 1960s.Photograph Details
