Photograph of the house at 436 East Street taken during a snow storm, probably during the early 1970s. The porte cochere, one of the few in town, was a striking architectural feature. One truck and two automobiles are parked at the side of the house. The house was originally built in the 1860s for Samuel F. Cooper, a banker, real estate broker, and politician. The house was at one time owned by Frank Almy, a physics professor at Grinnell College. The house was burned in a fire training exercise in 1978.
