[PAGE 1]
My dear father
I quite long to receive a letter from / you, to assure me of the receipt of mine- Mr. / Willet told me you was quite hurt at not hearing from me by him- I did intend writing but when / I came to ask for a pen there was not one/ in the house, and I had to wait till the next / day to borrow one of E Willett- this is my excuse / and it is a true one, as nothing could have / authorized my neglecting you but necessity / I quite long to hear from you, do write to me / for your letters are my only consolation here-
[crossed out words]
I am going to write to Eliza so my / dear father will excuse the brevity of this letter.
But rest assured of the affection of your/
Child - /
Ann Hoffman
