You made / a mistake when you wrote / sorrowful evening, it was not / the evening but the day after / PAGE 2 That was sorrowful, but it is / all over now and as usual I / have made a resolution never / to be so troubled about a trifling / thing again. But you will / know Em my inclination to / [crossed out] exhaust a great deal of feeling / upon unworthy subjects, and while / I lament this fault I can only / say I can’t help it, for I do / believe it is incurable, & at / the same time it is very foolish. / I acknowledge I never knew / until lately how much it / could affect my serenity. How / PAGE 3 Could you mention such / nonsense to any one for / although I am willing you / should know my folly I don’t / wish any one else to possess / such information. I shall / be at home to mourn & / I wish you would come this / afternoon & stay all night and / we will walk on the battery in / the morning after breakfast, it / was lovely there this morning. / Mamma and I took a long walk / there. Do do do do do come / after dinner to day. Papa has / PAGE 4 Gone & it is quite lonely. Mrs. Wood / sings at the Oratorio to morrow / evening don’t you wish our beaux would take us You could / go and hear her at an Oratorio. / I am glad you had a pleasant evening last evening. I shall expect you after dinner. Yours Eliza
