My dearest Emma
I arrive last evening and / once more at home I wish so much to see you that if you were / not in 17th Street and I was not very tired and had not as / much as can be done to regulate my affairs to day, I would / tell you myself and not send this little scrawl to announce my return. Had it been certain that we would leave / Oyster Ponds yesterday I would have written to you on / Wednesday by the boat but it was not decided then.
Now do come down as soon as / you receive this and stay all night. I have a thousand / things to day and more than that I am extremely anxious / to behold your dear face once more. I am so glad to be / at home you do now know how pleasant New York / looks, because it is my home I suppose, for without / that attraction it has not many charms, but home and / friends (and New York is the home of some friends most / dear to me) have made me rejoice to return.
PAGE 2
I shall expect you every day until I see / you. Until then good bye, I must go to breakfast / now, and leave all until I see you when you shall / hear about Oyster Ponds until you are bored.
Your Sincere friend
