Description

Color: Red; Gold "California Pastoral," by Hubert Howe Bancroft (San Francisco: The History Company,) 1888. The hardcover book, with a rebinding containing the title and author's name on the psine, and some embossed decorative work on the front cover, is a general history of the state, including material on the Spanish and Mexican periods, embracing the "Golden Age of California," comprising the mission era, land grants, the military system, the life of women, domestic matters, leisure, economics, law, government, religion, crime, and other topics. The work includes a bibliography, glossary, and index. With corner and spine rubbing, adhesive residue on the insides of the covers, brittleness of the binding, creases to some page corners, dented corners to the covers, light cover soiling and to page edges, page browning, losses to the back flysheet, marks and inscriptions on page 181, the title pages, the last page, the back flysheet, and library markings on the spine, and tears to the cover fabric, the general condition is good.
