The author is Elisabeth Siman Hajos, a Hubgarian novelist and journalist who wrote in Budapest and Paris until the onset of WWII. She and her husband Oscar, a photographer, immigrated to the United States in 1941, came to Lansing, Michigan, in 1942 and lived in Lansing for 30 years.
This copy was ordered away for from Budapest, as copies could not be found in the west. It cost a mere $5, but shipping was 10x that. Worthwhile to bring one of her Hungarian novels to Michigan.
