Theron Chase was an 1899 graduate of Lansing High School and graduate of Michigan Agricultural College. He was an early aide to R.E. Olds and worked for Olds Motor Works in Lansing around the turn of the twentieth century. He left Olds in 1908 and moved to Detroit to work for Hudson, then Chalmers Motor Co. until 1912, followed by King Motor Co. until 1921. He ultimately was chief engineer of the Brake Division of General Motors Research Laboratories until his 1948 retirement. He died in 1963.
