The Ordnance QF 18-pounder, or simply 18-pounder gun, was the standard British Empire field gun of the First World War era. It had a gun crew of six men. It formed the backbone of the British and Canadian Artillery during the war, and was produced in large numbers, over 10, 000 being built. The shell measured 84 x 295 mm. In the hands of a well trained crew under exceptional conditions the gun could fire at the maximum rate of 20 rounds per minute (rpm) but more normally at a sustained rate of 4 rpm.
