14th Bn. C.E.F Formation patch. Battle Patches were adopted in the summer of 1916 in time for Canadian participation in the Battle of the Somme. They were created to aid command and control of fighting troops in the battle.
Each of the four Divisions was represented by a coloured rectangle 3 inches wide by 2 inches tall, while individual units were further designated by coloured geometric shapes worn atop the divisional patch.
The 14th Bn. patch consisted of the red rectangle surmounted by the navy blue half-circle. Both shapes were sewn on a khaki piece of wool which was worn on the upper sleeve of the uniform.Lexicon
