During WWII non-commissioned men of the Canadian Army were issued a two-part Soldier's Service and Pay Book, Militia Book M 1. Part I, the Soldier's Service Book, recorded personal details, ie; next of kin, training, courses, a will, medical and dental history. Part II, the Pay Book, recorded rates of pay, payments received and deductions or stoppages.
Soldiers guarded these documents preciously since the records kept in these books would determine how much pay they received from the paymaster.Archive Details
