Notes
Rationing was instituted during wartime for civilians. For example, each person was given what's known as a “ration coupon” allowing them to purchase a certain amount of a product each month. Rationing often included food and other necessities for which there was a shortage including materials needed for the war effort such as rubber tires, leather shoes, clothing and fuel.
Canada rationed tea, coffee, sugar, butter and mechanical spare parts between 1942 and 1947.
