Canvas and leather map case with maps, rulers, a notebook and pencils, all belonging to Captain J. H. Slessor. The map case itself is made of a brown canvas covered board with clear plastic (talc) sleeves that are quite rigid. Inside the sleeves there are numerous maps, some with notes some without, and also a selection rulers, protractors, etc. Attached is a brown canvas field service notebook, with three coloured China graph pencils attatched with a wide elastic band. The notebook has a plastic label with the name of "CAPT J.H. SLESSOR", who used the map case while Adjutant, then Quartermaster during the 1960’s.Use
These map cases were issued to officers and they would use them during training and battle. Before the age of technology, these were of utmost importance for officers while in the field.Inscription/Signature/Marks
