One of 18 subalterns of the 1st Battalion, The Royal Montreal Regiment. The effective date of his rank is shown as 16 June 1932. He was appointed to the position of Adjutant effective 15 November 1936.
He was appointed Commanding Officer of the 1st Battalion, RMR on 29 April 1941, and retained command as the Battalion transitioned to the 32nd Reconnaissance Regiment (RMR), C.A.C. He relinquished command 25 January 1943
He was appointed Commanding Officer of the North Saskatchewan Light Infantry on 7 March 1944.
He was later appointed Acting Brigadier on 13 July 1944 and Commanded, for a time, the 1st Canadian Infantry Brigade in Italy.
