John Henry Ormsby was a 21 year old teacher was born at Hamilton, Ontario, January 1895. He enlisted with the 117th (Eastern Townships Battalion) at Leeds, Ontario, on March 6, 1916. He was discharged at Valcartier Camp, Quebec on August 4, 1916 as medically unfit due to recurring fits of hysteria. Later, using the name John Harry Ormsby he was conscripted under the Military Service Act of 1917 and signed his enlistment papers at Quebec City on July 9, 1918 but was again discharged there on August 1, 1918.
