Canadian Leopard "C2" Tank on patrolEntry/Object ID
2018.09.12Description
A Canadian Leopard C2 Tank on patrol, fitted with a Mine Flail.
The Taliban practiced the burying of landmines and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in NATO lines. As a solution, a mine flail would be used wherever mines were suspected. The flail is a series of rotating drums mounted in front of the tank with many chains attached. As the drums rotated the chains beat the ground thereby detonating mines and explosive devices. The LAV IIIs and other lightly armoured vehicles could follow in relative safety in the cleared path.Photograph Details
