Description

A black and white photo of the Canadian Troops marching through the streets of Dieppe. The city was liberated on September 1, 1944, by the 2nd Canadian Infantry Division. Two days later a victory parade was held while the division paused for reorganization. Contingents representing all major units of the 2nd Division marched 10 abreast behind the massed pipes and drums of the division's Highland regiments. Later in the day, a memorial service was held at the Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery to honour those killed in the Dieppe Raid of 1942.
