A Canadian CC150 Polaris aircraft prepares for transit. It is capable of carrying up to 240 passengers from CFB Trenton, Ontario to Kandahar Airfield some 10,150 Km away. Generally the plane would not make the full journey but would transit in a third location often Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.
The civilian airbus was converted to various military purposes: to carry military personnel, to transport essential cargo, to process air-to-air refuelling for the Royal Canadian Air Force, and to act as a medical transport for the Canadian military.
The plane would mostly fly at night to avoid being targeted by insurgent attacks. The colour of the plane would also help in making it less visible.Photograph Details
