2019.11.61Description
The Mercedes G-Wagon (Gelandewagen) was acquired in 2003 to replace the Bombardier-built Iltis that lacked the necessary protection needed for a combat environment. 1,150 were bought between 2003 and 2004 along with about 170 armoured protection systems.
This vehicle is equipped with a manned turret and .50 cal Machine Gun with armoured glass observation ports. A little to its left is a wire cuter - a post designed to slice through wires stretched across roads and meant to injure soldiers. Strapped to its hood is a coil of concertina / Razor wire.
In the background, you can see a number of fabric tent shelters used for storage, office, and accommodations.Photograph Details
