Description

Two members of Canada's Civilian/Military Cooperation (CIMIC) team in the company of members of the Afghan National Police wearing grey uniforms, are meeting with a village's elders. Their assigned Afghan interpreter is seated between the village leaders. At these meetings the role of CIMIC members was to hold discussions with the leaders of a village to assess the type of improvement projects they would like to see in their village. For example, a new school, better water drainage, irrigation for support agriculture, assistance with security, access to a water well or the construction of roads. The CIMIC operators would go to these meetings unarmed to promote trust between the village leader and the Canadian Army.
