Description

1. A honey-colored tagua nut carved thimble holder with two halves that screw together. The bottom is inscribed with a date, 1904, and some illegible script, possible the location where the souvenir was purchased 2. A two-piece holder with a top and a bottom. The bottom is shaped like a basket and the top looks like a lid. there is a hole on the top of the lid and a matching circular inset in the interior base of the basket shape. 3. Carved nut thimble basket with a handle of carved roses and perforated circles along the side of the basket. All on top of a carved base with two later thimbles

Context

Tagua nut and vegetable ivory needlework tools were mass produced as souvenirs and keepsakes in the late 19th century and early 20th century.
