Description

This is an example of the first practical electric ophthalmoscope. Inside the handle is a small lamp, which is connected to the red wires running out the end. To power the lamp, the wires were plugged into a wooden box containing dry cell batteries. The accompanying wooden battery container was once part of the original collection but has since been lost. This instrument used the DeZeng Loring lens system.
