This instrument combines design elements of the Helmholtz and Ruete ophthalmoscopes. Taking inspiration from developments made by Christian Ruete in 1853, Edward Jaeger included a concave silvered mirror in this ophthalmoscope to facilitate indirect ophthalmoscopy.
