Notes

This ophthalmoscope was presented to Dr. Louis C. Deane of San Francisco, while he was an assistant in Herman Knapp's New York clinic. In a letter explaining the tool, Dr. Deane wrote, "May this ophthalmoscope find a fitting resting place. It has seen long service and modestly might tell of its sensations when clapped against the face of some of our long-departed masters. Fuchs, Panas, Landolt, and Herman Knapp are but a few who have peered through its now dim apertures."
