Mauthner Ophthalmoscope

Name/Title

Mauthner Ophthalmoscope

Entry/Object ID

Description

This is a Mauthner ophthalmoscope, from Vienna. This ophthalmoscope is very similar to Jaeger’s 1854 ophthalmoscope but with one small difference. Mauthner "halved the length of the tube holding the mirrors to 2.6 cm. This allowed the operator’s eye to be closer to the sight hole enabling a wider field of view of the patient’s fundus." [Qoute from Atlas of Ophthalmoscopes, by Richard Keeler and Ian McAllister.]
