This painting of Dr. Frederick C. Cordes, chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at UCSF between 1934 - 1959, was presented to the University of California School of Medicine. The staff of the Department of Ophthalmology and his former residents, commissioned Arthur W. Palmer to paint this portrait in honor of Dr. Cordes' 20 years of service as chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology on June 1, 1954.
