Description

In 1946 Dr. George Campion found this ophthalmoscope in the rubble of the Nagasaki Medical School, Department of Ophthalmology, following the atomic bombing of Nagasaki. Experts believe this is a Japanese replica of a Helmholtz ophthalmoscope, as the handle appears too modern for the middle of the nineteenth century. It has a unique clip arrangement for holding the correcting lenses.
