Black cachet of the Texas Lone Star with oak leaves. Written in the circle, "MEMORIA-IN-AETERNA / U.S.S. TEXAS." Written above stars “19” & “32”. Recognized “MEMORIAL DAY / LONG BEACH” inserted between the killer bars. This cover is addressed to “W. G. Crosby, P.O. Box 602 / San Pedro, Calif.” and is from his personal collection.Context
Walter Crosby included this note describing the cachet:
“The U.S.S. Texas cachet was designed aboard ship. This cachet is scarce as there were only about fifty sent out. Also it is very old and different form (sic) any other cachet used on Armistice day. This cachet is a double circle, in the center of the circles is a wreath and within the wreath is the word PAX meaning Peace, then to the bottom of the circle in Latin words “Vigor securat Pacem” meaning “Strength guarantee peace.”
