Description

Vest and cuff button. (ca.1821-1824) Made in Mexico or in England. Cast and subsequently die-stamped with small drilled shanks. Dating to the Iturbide period, these examples show the Mexican eagle device in a developmental stage of the design's evolution.

Context

1820s period Mexican officer period button dug in Mexico along Mexican Army lines of march in both 1836 and 1847.  The certainty of the time period (1820s) is because buttons of this type have been metal detected at various sites of Mexican Army occupation in Texas dating from the 1820s- the 1836 campaign, but sites that were NEVER reoccupied by them after 1836. Proving their use prior to and during the Texas Revolution.
