Letter from Joseph Futey to his sister Mary Ann Futey
"Feb 26, 1944
U.S.S. Pensacola
Dear Sister Mary:
Just a few lines to let you
know that I received your letter and
was happy to hear from you. I am
feeling fine and I hope that you are
the same.
I guess that there are a lot of good
looking girls working at Packard at
the present time. You haven't got some
nice looking girl working with you
that would like to write to a sailor. I'll
be glad to get acquainted with some
of the new personal working there.
So the Army has finally caught up
with Max's. I didn't think that he
would go on account of his father being
an invalid.
Come to think of it Blondina did
tell me that she had a younger sister
then her that was married. she told me
that she was good looking. Mary this
month I hope to go up for Machinist
Mate third class but I'm not sure that
it will be this month until sometime
later on. I hope that I won't be in
long enough to be a C. P. O. because
a guy has to be in for about 5 years
or more before he can make that
and this is one guy that doesn't
want to be in that long.
On Washington's Birthday we had a
big turkey diner with all of the
trimmings. I don't know wether I
told or not that we have a guy in my
division whose name is George Washington
Anderson. The same day that I received your
letter he got one from his girlfriend. She
wrote and told him that she got married
to a Marine. You ought to see us get
his goat by telling him that he ought
to be ashamed of hisself for leaving a
Marine steal his girl.
Well Mary I guess that this will
have to be all for this time. good Luck!
Ans. soon,
Your Brother
Joe
