Scope and Content

Architectural assessment and image survey of the exteriors of King Street buildings between Broad and Calhoun Streets, created by HCF interns in 2005. Arranged in numeric order by individual street address ranging from 114 King Street to 381 King Street. Each entry includes a survey form with a current photo of the building. Attached to each assessment form may be historical images (engravings, sketches, newspaper photos, etc.) that were obtained from the primary research institutions in Charleston including HCF Archives, South Carolina Historical Society, the South Carolina Room at the Charleston County Library, the College of Charleston Special Collections, the Gibbes Museum, the Charleston Museum, and the Preservation Society of Charleston; other images include were obtained online from the Historic American Buildings Survey, and Saint Louis University's database of earthquake photographs. Collection also includes background information on the project and "preliminary" survey forms for some buildings in the 400 and 500 blocks.
