Lewis Latimer House

The Lewis Latimer House is a landmark home, Queen Anne-style, wood-frame suburban residence constructed between 1887 and 1889 by the Sexton family. Lewis Howard Latimer lived in the house from 1903 until his death in 1928. The house remained in the Latimer family until 1963. Threatened with demolition, the house was moved from Holly Avenue to its present location in 1988. Today, the house is a fully functional public museum and cultural institution that provides primary research materials dedicated to Latimer’s legacy and that of other innovators of color. The Lewis Latimer House is owned by the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation, operated by the Lewis H. Latimer Fund, Inc., and is a member of the Historic House Trust.

Whitesbog Village is an early 20th century company town and agricultural community. In the early 1900’s, Whitesbog was the largest cranberry farm in New Jersey. Its founder, Joseph J. White, was a nationally recognized leader in the cranberry industry. In 1916, Elizabeth C. White collaborated with Dr. Frederick A. Coville of the U.S. Department of Agriculture and successfully developed the first cultivated blueberry. Whitesbog is an important part of New Jersey history and the history of the blueberry and cranberry culture in the United States. It is listed on both the National and State Registers of Historic Sites. Whitesbog includes the village and the surrounding 3,000 acres of cranberry bogs, blueberry fields, reservoirs, sugar sand roads and Pine Barren’s forests. The Whitesbog Preservation Trust Archives acquires and preserves artifacts in a variety of formats that document the history of Whitesbog Village, the cranberry and blueberry Industries of New Jersey, and the individuals who contributed to that history. Whitesbog Preservation Trust is a private, non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization.

The City of Ocala, situated in the heart of North Central Florida, is home to a thriving art community. The City owns a wide variety of public artworks that represent the talents of regional artists in addition to artists across and beyond the state of Florida who have found a home for their art in the City of Ocala. The permanent collection, consisting primarily of sculptures and murals, can be found throughout the City, from downtown, to the many parks and businesses that bring the city to life. Most notably, is the biennial Ocala Outdoor Sculpture Competition which gives artists across the US an opportunity to display their work at Tuscawilla Art Park. In addition to the permanent collection, the city organizes an Art in City Spaces program which features a rotating group of artists whose work is curated within city-owned spaces, such as City Hall!

Southern Utah Museum of Art

Southern Utah Museum of Art, on the campus of Southern Utah University, features the artwork of regional artists known for their landscapes, faculty and student artists from the SUU Department of Filmmaking, Art, & Design, as well as emerging and distinguished artists from around the country and the world. Strengths of the nearly 2,000-object permanent collection include several works by famed Western artist Maynard Dixon, important regional women artists Eve Drewelowe and Edith Hamlin, and a comprehensive collection of work by Jimmie F. Jones that exemplifies his notable career in the region. Within SUMA’s holdings is an especially robust collection of prints that includes well-known artists such as Marc Chagall, James McNeill Whistler, Kawase Hasui, Thomas Hart Benton, and Käthe Kollwitz, among others. A number of gifts and acquisitions have focused on photography, such as Brett Weston, Gary Edward Adams, and a portfolio called DE | MARCATION: A Survey of Contemporary Photography in Utah. Named the best-designed museum in Utah by Architectural Digest, SUMA’s building, designed by Brooks + Scarpa and inspired by the region’s famed slot canyons, is an artwork in and of itself.

New Museum Los Gatos (NUMU) is a dual-focused art and history museum with the mission to engage the community at the intersection of art, history, and education through innovative, locally connected, and globally relevant exhibitions, programs, and experiences. The museum has been a collecting institution since its founding as the Los Gatos Museum Association in 1965, and has an eclectic assortment of objects, artifacts, belongings, ephemera, and artwork in its permanent collections. In 2020, NUMU launched the grant-funded Los Gatos History Project, which called for the first-ever full collections inventory and digitization. What is presented here are the results of this cataloging endeavor, and as the project is still ongoing, new records will be added regularly.
