Back Note Transcribed: "VANDALISM: Initials carved in the delicate fibreglass coverings of cracks atop the Old Man of the Mountains in Franconia Notch are pointed out by the two men most responsible for constant inspection and repairs to New Hamishire's #1 tourist attraction. Niels Nielsen, kneeling, right, Public Works & Highway Dept., points out the latest carvings to Austin Macaulay, left, Franconia Notch State Park. The two men and a special crew were on the granite profile for their annual inspection and repairs when they discovered the vandalism which cut thruthe protective covering in places, allowing moisture to seep into the cracks. Note the special turnbuckles in the picture that have been installed to hold the boulders in place that form the Old Man.
