Description

Sepia toned view of a small boarding house and barn with a partial hipped roof and wrap-around porch. Sign on building reads, "Moat View Cottage." Another sign seems to be advertising for an event in August of 1894. There are several people in the photograph: one woman sitting in a chair on the porch, a man sitting on porch steps, a group of five women sitting on the lawn, two women relaxing in the shade of a tree, and a man sitting with horse and buggy. Possibly related term; Suncote. Back Description: Written in pen, "The Moat View; Was destroyed by fire May 11, 1916; Nearly everything lost. L. E.; The cottage now on the site was built by Mr. Ross Ward for the Misses Lewis & Swetman in 1930. They occupied it on Sept. 25 1930 and called it the Suncote (meaning a sunny cottage) (Dec. 1, 1948 E.L.L.)
