Small hand-sampled piece of schist rock. This sample is part of a group of rocks known as the Littleton Formation and is about 400 million years old. This rock has a foliation of both micas, and siny red garnets. Collected by two well-trained geology students for the 2014 "Beyond Granite" exhibition at MWM. Part of a complete (or at least comprehensive) hand-sample collection of all the rocks of the White Mountains.Acquisition
