Small hand-sampled piece of Albany Quartz Syenite. This type of rock is found at, and makes up, Sundown Ledge. This sample is similar to granite only with less quartz. This varity of Albany Quartz Syenite has large feldspar grains while other varities have much finer grains. Collected by two well-trained geology students for the 2014 "Beyond Granite" exhibition at MWM. Part of a complete (or at least comprehensive) hand-sample collection of all the rocks of the White Mountains.Acquisition
