Description

Small hand-sampled piece of granofels. This sample belongs to a group of rocks known as the Madrid Formation. This granofels is a metamorphic rock which possesses a granular texture. This rock contains both small pointy grains of amphibole, and larger rounded grains of granites which stick out of the rock's face. This sample is about 420 million years old. Collected by two well-trained geology students for the 2014 "Beyond Granite" exhibition at MWM. Part of a complete (or at least comprehensive) hand-sample collection of all the rocks of the White Mountains.
