Small hand-sampled piece of amphibolite. This Sample contains, and is named for, the black shiny minerals in the rock called Amphiboles. This Amphibolite, which is a metamorphic rock, belongs to a rock formation called the Ammonoosuc Volcanics. This rock is about 455 million years old. Collected by two well-trained geology students for the 2014 "Beyond Granite" exhibition at MWM. Part of a complete (or at least comprehensive) hand-sample collection of all the rocks of the White Mountains.Acquisition
